People tend to forget about things soon after they’re completed. And Christmas is no different in this regard. How many of the things you did for last Christmas have remained etched in your memory? It is now November and I am sure you have forgotten about most of the stuff you have done during last Christmas.
Do you remember the time when your hands were full of sap for a whole one week? Do you remember how hard you had to toil to pick that perfect Christmas tree for yourself when you were shuddering under a -10 degree temperature? Do you remember how you had to clean the needles everyday, as well as the space beneath the tree? I would really be surprised if you say ‘Yes’ to any of these questions!
Believe it or not, real Christmas trees suck! Don’t misunderstand me; they are of course natural, but the labor and pain that goes into their maintenance is just not worth it, not at least to me, which is why I have started using artificial Christmas trees since last year!
There are some myths and misconceptions about the artificial Christmas trees which don’t help people see the real truth about them. Farmers would tell you that real trees are better than the artificial ones because unlike artificial trees, real trees cause no pollution and are easily biodegradable.
Truth is, the farmers don’t want the artificial trees to hurt their businesses, so they tell people all kinds of misleading things to save their businesses from downfall. But truth is truth, right? And the truth is that artificial trees generate less biodegradable waste than real trees. Here is how.
In an ideal world, real trees would turn into soil, in which case they could be called biodegradable. But in our world, most of the real trees make headways into the landfills, where they get piled up into a huge mountain of waste.
If you take into account the fact that an artificial tree usually lasts for fifteen long years, then a "real" tree would generate at least half-a-ton of waste compared to the 20-30 pounds of waste generated by the fake trees.
Another myth is that fake Christmas trees are bad since they are made in factories, and the real trees are good because they are grown by farmers. Truth however is that real trees are as poisonous as the fake trees, if not more, because a lot of harmful chemicals are used either as fertilizers or to protect the tree from pests.
On another note, factory workers are paid better than farmers, so fake trees are more likely to be developed in modern and hygienic conditions compared to the real trees.
Get out of myths and save yourself from toil by buying a Christmas tree this year! Believe me, you will love the experience!
